Lower unemployment predicted for Portugal
04 November 2009
Over the next couple of years unemployment in Portugal will be lower than previously predicted, the European Commission (EC) has stated.
The EC has projected that the jobless rate in the country could reach nine per cent this year and stay that way through 2010, but this is less than the 9.8 per cent peak previously suggested, Macauhub notes.
Such a situation may improve the prospects for those looking for jobs overseas or to relocate to the country.
Portugal’s overall economic outlook has improved as well, with a 0.3 per cent rise in gross domestic product expected next year, instead of a 0.8 per cent contraction.
One area of the country that could be set for an economic and property boost is Alentejo.
