Mixed appeal in Portugal

03 September 2007

Investment property in Portugal can serve more than one purpose, according to one market expert.

With around two million British tourists visiting every year, Portuguese properties can offer lucrative rental returns, with a Silver Coast apartment available for just £50,000.

And for Brits looking to retire to the sun, the relaxed Portuguese lifestyle and superb climate offers an idyllic destination for relaxing in your twilight years.

Ross Elder, managing director of Holidaylettings.co.uk, said it was no surprise that some 18,000 Britons buy a Portuguese property every year.

"Portugal is the perfect spot for investors looking to purchase a 'mixed use' property, where they get to spend some time themselves and also let it out to holidaymakers.

"The number of Portuguese properties being let out to holidaymakers is continually growing and not just along the Mediterranean coast."

Portuguese property was recently in the news after TV personality Chris Evans held his wedding reception in the Algarve, with property prices expected to be stimulated by celebrity interest.
