More people to fly to Portugal

04 November 2007

An increase in the number of people travelling to Portugal has been predicted by a budget airline.

Low-cost carrier easyJet said that it expected to carry 43,000 people on its new flight to Lisbon during the next 12 months.

The service, which is departing from Liverpool John Lennon Airport for the first time today, will fly out four times a week, therefore boosting the accessibility of mainland Europe from north-west England.

This is likely to lead to an increase in the number of holidaymakers visiting Lisbon and surrounding areas, potentially leading to added interest in the market from overseas property investors.

According to data published by Gatwick Airport, Portugal was one of the most popular holiday destinations for people travelling abroad during the school half-term.

Almost half a million people passed through the portal, mainly to established tourist destinations such as Faro.
