Portugal gaining in popularity among British

05 August 2007

A growing number of British tourists are choosing to take holidays in Portugal, news that may be of interest to potential property investors.

According to recent figures released by the Algarve's Hotel and Resort Association, 44.8% of the overall tourist market in the Algarve during June was made up of British people, reported by Homes Worldwide.

Moreover, figures released from Faro airport suggested that the number of passengers travelling to the area has also increased.

Easyjet said that 86,209 people flew to the airport during June, a figure that was 13.4% higher than in 2006, the publication stated.

The number of flights in total travelling to the area from the UK also saw an increase, up to 2,599 from 2006.

Additionally, there are now a number of low-lost companies travelling to the area, leading to shorter journey times for those from the UK, Homes Worldwide suggested.
